The standard reference amount for the entire face is roughly the size of a soybean or about one pump. However, the exact amount should be adjusted based on skin type, desired finish, and product texture; applying small amounts in layers is the safest approach.
Dosage based on skin type
Dry skin: Use a hydrating foundation. Start with about 1–1.5 pumps (or even 2–2.5 pumps initially, adjusting as you go) to prevent the product from caking or cracking due to insufficient moisture.
Oily skin:Use a long-lasting foundation. Keep the total amount under one pump; apply less to the T-zone and a thin layer to the cheeks to avoid product buildup, which can lead to makeup sliding off or settling into fine lines later.
Combination skin: Apply foundation by zone. Use less product on the oily T-zone and layer slightly more on the dry U-zone to balance longevity and hydration.
Adjusting dosage for different scenarios and products
Daily "no-makeup" look: Use no more than one pump for the entire face. A thin layer preserves your natural skin texture and avoids a "mask-like" appearance.
On-camera or long-wear occasions: You can increase the amount to 1.5 pumps. Use concealer for precise spot coverage rather than applying a thick layer of foundation over the entire face.
Lightweight, fluid foundations: You can increase the amount to 2 pumps. Blend with a damp makeup sponge to ensure good coverage without the finish feeling heavy.
High-coverage, thicker foundations: Limit the amount to 1.5 pumps to avoid an overly heavy look or a cakey, powdery finish.
